Most of what comes across this counter comes from a mile or so of western Queens. Everything else arrives by e-mail, from anywhere.
The neighbourhoods this office was opened for
Woodside, Jackson Heights, Elmhurst, Sunnyside, Astoria — five neighbourhoods along one stretch of the elevated line, and between them most of the documents that arrive here in somebody's hand rather than in an attachment.
Most of them are in Manhattan, thirty to forty minutes from here on the 7. Half the reason this office exists is that the queue is over there and the people are out here.

The counter is used by people from a wider ring than that, and the list below is the honest extent of it: near enough that coming in with a folder is a reasonable thing to do on a weekday.

Written translation does not need anybody to be anywhere. A photograph or a scan is enough to quote from and usually enough to work from, a PDF goes back the working day it is finished, and a signed hard copy goes in the post if you want one. Remote interpreting works the same way and is often available the same day.
On-site interpreting is the exception, because somebody has to travel: travel within the city is included in the hourly rate, and anything beyond it is said before it is booked rather than added afterwards.
Where the figures come from. Every figure on this site comes from the rate card, and the estimator shows its arithmetic rather than only its answer. What it cannot know is how many words are actually on your document, which is why a quote follows a reading and an estimate does not.
